Tom Arlis - Head Coach

Head Coach Tom Arlis is in his 7th year as the Bulldogs' head coach.  He has a record at Batavia of 106-48, and over 300 career wins as a head coach, placing him on elite company in the state of Illinois.  Prior to coaching at Batavia, he was the head coach at Naperville North where his teams won numerous conference and regional titles and had four state tournament appearances including a 2nd place finish in 1992.  He has coached 12 individual state champions and 15 state place winners in his 16 years as a head coach.  In 2007, Coach Arlis was elected into the Illinois High School Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame.  Coach Arlis graduated from Montini High School where he was a two-time state place winner.  He attended Western Illinois University where he was a two-time captain and three-time national qualifier.  Coach Arlis lives in Batavia with his wife Jamie.  His oldest son Clint, who holds the career record for wins at Batavia, is wrestling at the University of Illinois, and his younger son Logan, a senior, is one of the top returning wrestlers at Batavia this year.  His daughter Taylor is a sophomore at the University of Illinois.

Scott Bayer - Assistant Head Coach

Assistant Head Coach Scott Bayer is now in his 5th year as an assistant coach following coaching stints at Lane Tech and collegiately at North Central College in Naperville.  Competitively, Coach Bayer was a state qualifier at Hoffman Estates High School, and was a two-time NCAA Division III national qualifier and achieved All-American status in 1998 while attending Monmouth College.  He currently teaches History at Batavia High School and lives in Naperville with his wife Julie.

John Canfield - Assistant Coach

Assistant Coach John Canfield has 28 years of coaching experience, the last 12 at Batavia High School.  Prior to this he coached the Rotolo Middle School team for 14 years and spent a year each at Yorkville and Oswego High Schools.  Coach Canfield wrestled at Richards High School and also at Illinois State University.  Coach Canfield is a Physical Education teacher at Rotolo Middle School.  He and his wife Rose reside in Geneva and have two children Katie and Sean.

Mark Jayne - Assistant Coach

Assistant Coach Mark Jayne joins the coaching staff with an impressive competitive resume.  In high school, he was a three-time state champion for St. Edward (OH), while his team won the Division I state title all four years he was there as well as the national team title in 1998, 1999 and 2000. At the end of his high school career, Mark had accumulated the most all-time wins in school history.  He followed this up by being named to the USA Dream Team as a senior in 2000. He also found success in Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, earning seven All-American awards at the USA Nationals in Fargo, ND. This includes a national title, a runner-up, and two thirds in the Junior division. His junior year he won the Ultimate Belt series for the high school division in Greco-Roman in both Ohio and the country.

Following high school, Jayne took his talents to the University of Illinois. During his time there he became a multiple All-American, Big Ten Champion, Las Vegas Invite Champion, Midlands champion, and two-time NWCA All-Star Member. Jayne was also a two-time captain on the team during the team's regular season Big Ten championship as well as their historic Big Ten tournament championship in 2005, the team's first since 1952. He earned three Academic All-American awards and graduated from University of Illinois with Honors.

Mark comes to Batavia from Marmion Academy where he taught and coached for three years. He currently teaches health education at BHS and lives in Batavia.
